Snowman…again

Often my kids are coming up with ideas what they want me to crochet for them. This time it’s THE SNOWMAN  AND THE SNOWDOG. Yes, snowman’s green hat makes him look like the one they wanted. But look at him in red hat, hmmm…  I used my reindeer pattern to make the dog and the instructions below are for my snowman 🙂

Snowman

any yarn/wool/thread can be used, I am using DMC Petra 8 with 0.75mm hook

Abbreviations: 

(US crochet terms)
ch=chain, ss=slip stitch, sc=single crochet, 2sc=inc=increase (2sc in the same st), dec=decrease

Body/head: with white, make a magic ring, work in continuous spiral (use stitch marker in the beginning of each round)
1. 6sc into magic ring (6)
2. 2sc in each st around (12)
3. *sc, inc* repeat around (18)
4. *sc, inc, sc* repeat around (24)
5. *inc, sc, sc, sc* repeat around (30)
6. *sc, sc, sc, inc, sc* repeat around (36)
7. *inc, sc, sc, sc, sc, sc* repeat around (42)
At this stage, I cut out a plastic/card paper circle smaller than the circle I end up with after round 7 and insert it inside my doll at the later stage before stuffing, to keep the base of my snowman flat.
8. (back loop only) sc in each st around (42)
9. *inc, sc in each of next 6sts* repeat around (48)
10. sc in each st around (48)
11.-25. repeat round 10.
26. *dec, sc in each of next 6sts* repeat around (42)

Start stuffing (I insert a small circle first to keep the base flat)

Fasten off, stuff more if needed and close the opening

Arm (make 2): with white, make a magic ring, work in rounds, close off each round with ss
1. 6sc into magic ring, join with ss (6)
2. ch1, 2sc in each st around, join with ss (12)
3. ch1, sc in each st around, join with ss (12)
4. repeat round 3.
5. ch1, dec, sc in each of next 10sts, join with ss (11)
6. ch1, sc in each st around, join with ss (11)
7. ch1, dec, sc in each of next 9sts, join with ss (10)

9. ch1, dec, sc in each of next 8sts, join with ss (9)
